Suzzanne trained in Newmarket at the British Racing School. She was apprenticed to Nigel Tinkler and Neville Bycroft. She became head lass for Andy Turnell where she helped to train the successful Class 1 winner Blue Bejan. Then, as assistant trainer for Neville Bycroft, she helped to train Danum Dancer, Winner of the Class 1 Totepool Two-Year- Old trophy. As an apprentice jockey Suzzanne had ridden 17 winners when, after a serious injury at Recar, she took up training in her own yard at Cheesecake Hill.
Aaron rides out and helps with training of all our horses. As an amateur jockey he rode the first winner for Newstart Yard, riding Stamp Duty at Wolverhampton in February 2012. Aaron also rides out for other local yards.
Kate joins us for race meetings, preparing the horses and collecting the saddles. She enjoys leading the horse and jockey into the winners enclosure after the race!
Pat, a former music teacher in schools, often tries to keep in tune with our accounts and paper work. Pat enjoys giving our yard the tidy blooming appearance that welcomes our visitors.
Peter was our Yard Man, handy man and true supporter. He could often be seen tidying up around the yard and making plans for more improvements. He would usually been seen at the races, meeting with owners in the parade ring. He played a major role in the running and daily routine of Newstart Racing.
We will never walk alone
Pete, Suzzanne's dad, who played a major role in the running and daily routine of Newstart Yard, sadly passed away at home in October 2017. We will carry on with his work around the yards, just as he would wish. We aim to work alongside all the things and ways he has created and developed, making things the best they can be for the home and Newstart Racing. Pete's spirit will forever be with us around the yards and he will always be cheering on the winners throughout our racing adventures.
Minster Vets have a superb reputation around the local training industry. Their branch practice at Malton offers a full, in depth service and they are always happy to give assessments and advice for any concerns we have for the athletic racehorses we work with.
Gemma is a great link to our success. She visits our yard regularly and checks our horses for any aches, pains & niggles. Gemma has done pressure relieving work for all our winners and gives the horses the comfort and confidence they deserve.
Liam has worked with us in Newstart Yard since 2019. He is very a knowledgeable farrier who works towards getting the best results from all our horses by getting their feet in the best possible shape. Liam keeps up to date with new and inspiring treatments which ensures that our horses feet have the best possible care.
McIvor's make our regular food delivery. They are a small family business which has been serving the farming and equestrian community for over 50 years. They only deliver the best quality feeds we require. The lads know the feed room well and where everything goes.
A place where horses are happy. A tidy, compact yard with everything you need. Horses and visitors are given personal attention. The horses get the individual care they need to perform to their maximum.
When the weather is kind, we can turn the horses out in the paddocks to have fresh air and a pick of grass. They can buck and kick and enjoy getting down for a roll.
This is great to get the horses going after a break and for educating young ones. We have poles & tyres to prepare them for schooling at the gallops, if they are going to run over jumps.
Within a mile of our yard we have these excellent gallops. We have 6 & 12 furlongs all-weather poly track gallops and 5,6 & 12 furlong grass gallops. There are schooling fences, schooling hurdles and practice stalls.
A great asset to our yard. It is used to get horses ready for cantering after a break, or easing down after a season of training. Also used for more relaxing exercise days throughout full training. It can be used in all weathers due to the rubber flooring and roof cover.
A very useful addition to our yard. The horses travel in comfort and are well settled in their regular transport. Having our own transport keeps travelling and raceday expenses to a minimum for our owners.
Literally surrounding our yard, we have these 7 furlong all weather gallops, a 10 furlong grass gallop and a range of shorter grass gallops, Starting stalls and schooling hurdles & fences.
Our Salter Brecknell Weighing Scales are ideal for accurately weighing our horses. They enable us to gain records of their weight at every step of the training, especially at the start of their training programme after a break, and before and after race days.
This is great for getting their confidence walking through and standing in the starting stalls. The stall is well padded with a closing rear gate.
